Jamlitz: A Documentary Fairy-Tale (2026)

Tucked in the Lower Lusatian region, the village of Jamlitz-Jemjelnica once flourished as a bustling hub for visual artists and writers. That cultural boom ended abruptly when Nazi forces constructed a detention center on the grounds, which then transitioned into a Soviet operational camp after 1945. Years later, Friederike—the great-granddaughter of one of the original residents—retraces her roots with a clear mission. By channeling her family’s artistic lineage, she aims to rejuvenate the struggling community and gently repair the fragmented memories passed down through decades. Blending personal heritage with regional rebirth, this cinematic journey reveals how creative expression can bridge historical divides and foster collective healing.
