For years, Agent Abdulrahman has tallied the dead of war and fastened photographs to a wall. In every image, a pale man dressed in purple watches from the background. He belongs to the Family, a dynasty that selects one member each generation to become the Sadness Prince. Then a photo of the Agency’s own lobby surfaces, leading Abdulrahman to open the Book of Agents and summon Ahmed Mazin, Agent 67.
