Where the Fear Ends (2026)

What began in 1976 as a kitchen-table conversation among a few women in Montgomery County, PA, soon became a movement of its own. These women recognized that more and more women wanted to pursue college, enter the workforce, and find balance with their roles as wives and mothers. Their vision was simple: create a women’s resource group and a welcoming space where women could exchange ideas and find support. Then the hotline began to ring. Volunteers picked up the calls, and the calls kept coming. Most were from women reporting abuse by their partners and asking for help. Shocked by what they heard, the volunteers took action and built an organization dedicated to serving domestic violence victims. Fifty years later, the Women’s Center of Montgomery County has become a thriving organization with seven offices and more than 150 volunteers, and it stands as one of the most effective domestic violence organizations in the country.
