Unseen: The Aberfan Portraits (2026)

After the 1966 Aberfan disaster, an artist from Llandudno set out on an extraordinary mission: to paint portraits of most of the 116 children who died, working from photographs and locks of hair given by their grieving families. For the first time, relatives reveal what these remarkable paintings have meant to them across six decades. BBC presenter Huw Thomas explores how the portraits became lasting symbols of remembrance in a village forever changed by tragedy.
