Schurli - Der Liedermacher & Poet Georg Danzer (2026)

Known to close friends, fans, and companions as Schurli, Georg Danzer was also a celebrated singer-songwriter, poet, and quietly profound thinker. His unmistakable Viennese humor and songs such as Jö Schau and Hupf in Gatsch brought him fame, yet there was much more beneath the playful glint in his eye: political and poetic songwriting, often melancholic lyrics, incisive observations, and a heartfelt bond with people living at society’s margins. Marking what would have been his 80th birthday, this ORF documentary follows Danzer’s life through his music and writing, with rare archival material, recollections from friends and family, and previously unpublished notes. It offers an intimate portrait of Schurli Danzer, of Vienna, and of Viennese culture itself.
