The Ordinary Star (2026)

In The Ordinary Star, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is asked to observe Ashok, the real occupant of the room Siddiqui will stay in while filming Star, Dibakar Banerjee’s segment in the 2013 anthology Bombay Talkies. Gradually, the fiction director, documentary filmmakers, and actor build the lead character of Bombay Talkies, Porandar Vithal, with Ashok’s own life feeding into that creation. The documentary explores the essence and price of filmmaking—its intrusiveness, its hunger to consume so it can create, and the endless pursuit of a life less ordinary.
