Foka (2026)

A Greek physician from Turkey, Dr. Dimitri Foka, escaped a Nazi execution in Greece during World War II when his Turkish passport saved his life. After completing his studies, he returned to his hometown on the Turkish island of Imroz, also known as Gökçeada, where he served as the island’s sole doctor for many years. When the 1964 Cyprus crisis fueled state policies against the Greek population, bringing dispossession, violence, and forced migration to the island, Foka still refused to leave.
