Lian & Natsuko (2026)

Blending personal archives, intimate interviews, and creative visual storytelling, Lian And Natsuko serves as a groundbreaking hybrid documentary that unravels the dual existence of a 98-year-old Taiwanese matriarch. Nearly twenty years prior to production, she unexpectedly shared a deeply distressing home recording with her grandchildren, revealing the hidden truth behind her fractured past. The footage captured harrowing historical upheavals so profound that it compelled her to permanently suppress her former persona, Natsuko. Crafted and directed by her grandson, this innovative film carefully rebuilds the vibrant, unburdened spirit of her youth while excavating suppressed collective memories from Taiwan’s turbulent decades. Through intergenerational dialogue and cinematic resurrection, the project transforms buried family history into a powerful meditation on identity, survival, and the enduring weight of national memory.
