First Lesson (2026)

A candid video diary captures a dinner gathering at the legendary Intervilles café in Roubaix, France, where Béla Tarr shares a table with his Le Fresnoy students as they prepare bottarga pasta. Shot in February 2019 and cut together in 2026 exclusively for a Béla Tarr tribute screening series, the footage features what appears to be a casual aside—yet it perfectly encapsulates seven years of seismic change in how we perceive reality, craft images, and nurture human connections, all shaped by the unstoppable rise of vertical videos across social media.
