The Informant (2026)

At eighty-two, Juris Kalniņš discovers his name in the archives of the Latvian SSR’s Committee for State Security, where he is listed as an informant. A steadfast free thinker in Soviet times and still today, he has spent most of his life photographing people and capturing the spirit of the era. Now the camera turns on Juris himself as he explores his past to uncover how his name landed in a KGB file—and asks what truly makes someone an informant: a document, suspicion, other people’s opinions, or a person’s own actions?
