Flowers of the Earth (2026)
Director: Maurizio Benazzo
A Kaiowá poet once observed, "Water flows within us, rises as a loving cloud, returns as rain, awakens seeds, and blossoms into life. We are Nature itself." For the Guarani-Kaiowá people of Mato Grosso do Sul, no boundary exists between the human body and the natural world—the soil acts as their flesh, trees connect them like umbilical cords, and mountains form the skeleton of a living, breathing mother. Yet for more than a hundred years, this maternal land has suffered enclosure, flames, excavation, and contamination, forcing its people onto cramped fragments of the vast homeland they once roamed freely. Through intimate conversations, this documentary captures the voices of tribal elders who recall the untouched forests predating agricultural expansion—before native vegetation was razed and the living landscape was subdivided into monotonous, endless monoculture grids.
