In a cash-free, competition-free society, AfrikaBurn—the largest regional gathering inspired by the world-famous Burning Man—becomes the backdrop for a one-of-a-kind experiment. Deep in the South African desert, a diverse circle of friends launches their LOVEBOX spaceship, inviting visitors on a journey to the stars and into themselves. Inside the LOVEBOX, two strangers share a few minutes and explore a question about love, sparking unexpected moments of connection and self-discovery. Once the festival dust settles, the friends try to carry the LOVEBOX’s magic into everyday life—but can the openness and connection they found at AfrikaBurn outlast its temporary utopia?

More About This Film

Lovebox is a German documentary that travels to the AfrikaBurn festival in the South African desert, where a group of friends builds a spaceship-like installation designed to encourage strangers to meet and talk about love. The project turns a festival experiment into a broader exploration of connection, openness, and the ways people relate to one another.

The film moves between the utopian atmosphere of the festival and the challenges of bringing that spirit back into everyday life. Its observational approach gives the encounters room to develop naturally, while the unusual Lovebox concept provides a visual and emotional centerpiece.
