Built in a Night (2026)

At the heart of this film are İzmir’s gecekondu neighborhoods, where migration-built homes, roofs raised overnight, and resistance to demolition are vividly remembered. Hand-drawn symbols and wall slogans animate oral history, while archival footage, present-day filming, and illustrations intertwine. Together, they reconstruct the memory of the gecekondu as a struggle for the right to housing and a form of resistance, tracing a forgotten era.
