The morning of his wedding starts like any other—except for the knot in his stomach from a night of tossing and turning. He opens his eyes, takes a breath, steadies himself. Beside him, his bride stirs, and they share soft words and a gentle kiss. He gazes at her, brushes his fingers along her shoulder—then freezes. His right hand has locked into a crude, unshakable position. Panic rising, he masks it with a smile, determined not to ruin her perfect day. All through the celebration, he schemes in secret—tugging, flexing, hiding his hand behind his back, in his pocket, anywhere—but nothing loosens its grip. Then, a desperate jog through the park collides with a stranger’s coffee cup, sending it flying. In that moment of sheer humiliation, he’s ready to confess his bizarre affliction—when, miraculously, his fingers uncurl. Elated, he races to the registry office, convinced the crisis is over. The ceremony unfolds flawlessly, until the officiant asks for the vows. “I do,” he begins—and his hand snaps shut like a trap, betraying him once more.
