hovers (2026)
Director: Shunsaku Hayashi
Cast: Geoff Marslett
Suspended between pixels and paint, *hovers* transforms a split-second goal celebration from a football video game into a trance-like, stop-motion animation composed of towering, nearly three-meter canvases. Built on the principle of leapfrog—where player and played, actor and acted-upon, endlessly trade places—the triumphant gesture loses its fleeting joy, hardening into an empty, repetitive rite. By refusing to let the match continue, this "active hovering" locks the moment in a permanent state of in-between, defying the game’s relentless push toward closure.
