More About This Film

The Sidequest is a playful Dutch fantasy comedy that turns a simple errand into an absurdly epic adventure. When Ties sets out to return Pieter's phone charger, the short trip suddenly becomes a full fantasy quest populated by a bard, wizard, and paladin.

The film deliberately borrows the language of role-playing games, including strange encounters and unpredictable dice rolls, while using that world to exaggerate an otherwise ordinary task. Its humor comes from the escalating contrast between the mundane goal and the grand adventure it becomes.

  • Written and directed by Ties Ruber.
  • Ruber also plays Ties, the character known as The Fighter.
  • Sem de Louw plays The Bard and Luuk Guliker plays The Paladin.
  • The film's original title is De Sidequest and its language is Dutch.
  • The production used a reported budget of about one US dollar.
