What unfolds is a raw and intimate confrontation with one of the most sensitive, universally charged dilemmas of our time. The narrative shines a stark light on how restrictive abortion laws, still rampant across many nations, inflict profound suffering on women and force countless children into lives shadowed by hardship. Completed just one month before Iran’s “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising, the project was born under a regime of suffocating rules governing female presence and attire—and then shelved for a full year when post-production ground to a halt. Finally unveiled in 2024, the film weaves stark realism with dreamlike surrealism to dismantle societal verdicts on a woman’s ultimate choice: to nurture a new life or to reclaim her own. And if I were to craft this story today, under the shifting sands of current realities, its very architecture would be a completely different beast.
