Paper Boat (2026)
Perahu Kertas
Director: Axelle Nurhaliza Maillet
Perahu Kertas (Paper Boat) unfolds as a cinematic poem centered on Atun, the filmmaker’s childhood nanny, who cared for her from birth and became the mother she chose. After decades of domestic work across Indonesia and beyond, Atun now runs a roadside food stall in Bali with her husband Mus and their wider family. Keeping both the business and their loved ones afloat takes relentless effort, with only one day off every two weeks. This film is that single day of rest. In Atun’s brief pause from the grind of survival, room opens for poetic reflection on care, labor, sacrifice, and a bond that goes far beyond blood.
