The Phantom (2026)

When two female producers land a gig to craft a short documentary for an exhibition honoring Rubén Santantonín—a mysterious Argentine avant-garde artist who died far too young in the late 1960s—they think they know what they're signing up for. But the client throws in a twist: the film must be co-created with David Lamelas, Santantonín's former creative partner and a now-celebrated figure in the world of conceptual art. What begins as a straightforward project quickly evolves as Lamelas, joined by a youthful film team, digs through archives, captures what remains of Santantonín's work, and sits down with curators and iconic artists like Luis Felipe Noé and Marta Minujín—key players in the fabled Instituto Torcuato Di Tella scene. Yet as Lamelas pieces together the past, he discovers that telling his friend's story means navigating a maze of missing pieces and conflicting narratives.
