The True Spirit (2026)

Two young Indigenous fighters step into the ring carrying more than just gloves—they carry the weight of family dreams, cultural roots, and city expectations. Liu Li-Chen enters high school as a proven champion, having already captured a national junior title through raw talent and relentless drive. But as academic pressure mounts and his heritage pulls him in another direction, he loses his footing both outside and inside the ropes. His losses mount, and with each defeat, his self-belief fractures further. Meanwhile, Su Jing-Wen trains in Sanxia’s New Taipei City Nanjing Indigenous district, widely touted as the next Olympic star. Beneath the accolades, however, she wrestles with quiet doubt. She stays in the gym not out of personal conviction, but because everyone around her has already decided her destiny. Raised on concrete sidewalks yet never truly embraced by the urban landscape, she searches for a space where her Indigenous identity and athletic ambitions can finally align. This deeply human sports drama tracks the collision of external pressure and inner truth, offering a powerful look at how young Indigenous athletes navigate identity, expectation, and the pursuit of authentic success.
