Sugar in the Water (2026)

Every year, roughly one million international students arrive in the United States to pursue their education, and around half of them aim to remain in the country after graduating—a journey often marked by long, unpredictable procedures. *Sugar in the Water* turns the camera on this universal experience of waiting, told through the eyes of an independent filmmaker. Created in collaboration with twelve close friends and relatives, the film unfolds across thoughtfully chosen spaces—interior rooms, open landscapes, and a controlled studio—where unscripted movements capture the quiet rhythms of anticipation and stillness. What emerges is an intimate reflection on time, presence, and the shared truths of existence that surface when all we can do is wait.
