what are you up to, Sara? (2026)
qué tú hace, Sara?
A filmmaker takes up a documentary residency in Cuba’s Sierra Maestra and forms a quiet bond with Sara, a seven-year-old girl who travels between the villages of San Pablo de Yao and La Nave. Through play and shared exploration, they inhabit a world where Sara is just a child—yet within these everyday moments, the subtle signs of the island’s struggles begin to surface. The filmmaker later turns their connection into a letter to Sara, revisiting the days they spent together and finding a way to hold her close in thought after they go their separate ways.
