In the shadow of Helsingør’s concrete towers, a self-taught dreamer named Mona—armed with nothing but a library card and a heart full of longing—finds herself torn between two very different worlds. On one side, there’s Nikolaj, the polished son of privilege from the leafy, upscale streets across town, whose intellect both dazzles and intimidates her. On the other, there’s her cousin Frederik, a small-time dealer skating on thin ice, who refuses to face the one truth that matters: his mother, the warm and boundless Aunt Tut, is dying. As Mona fights to bridge the chasm between her gritty reality and Nikolaj’s gilded life, she must also coax Frederik back to his mother’s bedside before it’s too late. Can she prove that love outranks pedigree, or will the invisible walls of class prove too high to climb? And in her desperate race to mend her family’s broken bonds, will Mona lose the very thing that makes her extraordinary—her unpolished, bookish soul?
