It’s the blazing summer of 1963. Acclaimed Portuguese poet Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, joined by her fellow literary giant Agustina Bessa-Luís and Agustina’s husband, Alberto Luís, embarks on an unforgettable odyssey behind the wheel through Greece, meticulously preserving the journey in her personal diary. Fast forward six decades to the summer of 2023: a duo of Portuguese filmmakers, fueled by those very handwritten fragments, retrace the exact asphalt of that legendary voyage. Their car cuts through a country of many faces—the mythical Hellas of the mind, the scattered ruins of reality, Sophia’s poetic vision, their own cinematic lens, and the eternal, untamed landscape of Odysseus that belongs to no one. As the poet once wrote: "At 4:30 I set foot on Greek land. Marvellous road on the way out of Patras. We move on with the sea by our side among olive and cypress trees and bluish mountains. Light heat, scented air. The mountains link the earth to Olympus. We stop and I go wash my feet, hands, arms and face in the sea." This is a time-bending tribute, a cinematic pilgrimage where the dust of 1963 meets the open road of today.
