Nestled along the rugged coastline of Shakotan, Hokkaido, Nozuka Elementary School is set to close its doors after 134 years of service, a casualty of the region’s shrinking population. Among the last remaining pupils is Taiyo, a reserved second grader, who is one of just four students walking the hallways in the school’s final chapter.
