Bodies (of War) (2026)
Ciało wojny
Director: Małgorzata Szumowska
A powerful documentary weaves together three distinct human stories, all tied by the same theme: the body under siege during Russia’s war on Ukraine. The first thread follows wounded soldiers at Lviv’s Superhumans Center, capturing the grueling physical grind of recovery as they relearn movement with advanced prosthetics. Next, we meet Dana Vitkovska, a transgender Ukrainian artist exiled in Warsaw, whose path blends gender transition with the trauma of displacement—reclaiming her body through dance. Finally, the collective Open Group transforms the horror of war into visceral performance art, coaching refugees to recreate the terrifying sounds of bombings with nothing but their own voices and bodies.
