In the 1850s of Lower Canada, sisters Augustine and Josephine Wilson live under the shadow of a rare genetic condition that marks them as different from other women. Their father, battling tuberculosis, keeps them isolated from the world. When he dies, the sisters are thrust into a village steeped in religious fear and superstitious dread of the devil.
