Coconut (2026)

At nineteen, Dev is a bedroom rapper caught between two worlds—and neither fully claims him. Labeled a “coconut” for being brown on the outside but white within, he’s long buried his Fijian Indian roots under the weight of an Aussie accent he’s ashamed of. The sting of mockery every time he attempts Fiji Hindi has silenced him completely. But when he accidentally sends his late grandfather’s ashes tumbling into a creek during the funeral rites, his fractured identity spirals into full-blown crisis. Then, a chance grocery run with his sharp-tongued, Hindi-only grandmother flips the script. After Dev snaps at a stranger in frustration, she fires back—in her own fiery words—and suddenly, they share a secret tongue. That whispered language becomes their lifeline: a bridge over grief, a doorway back to heritage, and the unexpected spark that finally sets Dev’s healing in motion.
