On a sun-soaked Mediterranean island, two boys named Ettore and Giovannino share an inseparable childhood. When summer fades, Ettore must relocate to the mainland for school, carving a deep emptiness into their seaside world that Giovannino must learn to navigate alone. During an impossibly long, cold winter, salvation arrives through the dusty archives and vintage video camera of Pino, an elderly hobbyist filmmaker whose recordings help bridge the distance left behind.

More About This Film

Sciatunostro is an Italian coming-of-age comedy-drama directed by Leandro Picarella. Set on the small Mediterranean island of Linosa, the film follows Ettore and Giovannino, two inseparable boys of eleven and seven who are preparing to spend their final summer together before Ettore leaves the island to continue his studies on the mainland.

When separation changes the rhythm of their lives, Giovannino has to confront absence and the passage of time. An elderly amateur filmmaker named Pino becomes an important link to the past through his archive of recordings, allowing memories of the island and its community to remain alive. The film explores friendship, childhood, memory and the bittersweet experience of growing up, while making the island itself an essential part of the story.
