The Red Barn (2026)
Sarkanais šķūnis
Director: Pēteris Krilovs
Cast: Imants Strads, Kaspars Zvīgulis
The 20th century longed for utopia yet was marked by tragedy. This film explores the nearly hundred-year journey of San Francisco-based Latvian artist and playwright Raimonds Staprāns as he sought to define life and statehood. It recreates one of his paintings in exact detail and invites actors to embody characters from his plays. Guided by the painting’s symbolically charged red barn, the film intentionally sparks debate among the actors, director, and crew over the characters’ motivations—and the alternative choices and decisions those characters could have made but never did.
