Young soldier Heikki braves the frozen frontlines of the Karelian Isthmus with his comrade Pauli by his side. When Arvo, a man freshly freed from prison, joins their unit, his unconventional outlook on war and loyalty shakes the ranks. A brief ceasefire sparks dreams of home, but hope shatters as Finland is forced to take up arms against its former German allies in Lapland. Meanwhile, in Rovaniemi, Saara—a translator for the German forces—faces a heart-wrenching choice: remain in Finland or escape to Germany with Major Duisberg, the man she loves.

More About This Film

Lapland War is a historical survival drama set in northern Finland in 1944, during the final stages of the Second World War. As geopolitical events reshape the region, ordinary people find themselves caught between armies, shifting loyalties, and the need simply to survive.

Based on Antti Tuuri's novel The Iron Boot, the film approaches the Lapland War through a group of individuals rather than presenting the conflict solely as a military history. Themes of forgiveness, endurance, and personal responsibility give the story a broader emotional dimension.
