More About This Film

Os Ruminantes is a Brazilian documentary about a remarkable unrealized film project. Decades after Luiz Sérgio Person and Jean-Claude Bernardet developed an ambitious adaptation of José J. Veiga's novel A Hora dos Ruminantes, the documentary returns to the script, archives, interviews, and historical circumstances surrounding the project.

The film becomes both a cinematic investigation and a reflection on the impact of Brazil's military dictatorship on artists and film production. By reconstructing a movie that was never made, it also examines what can survive in archives when a cultural project is prevented from reaching the screen.

  • Directed by Tarsila Araújo and Marcelo Mello.
  • The film runs approximately 80 minutes.
  • Jean-Claude Bernardet and Marina Person appear in the documentary, alongside archival material related to Luiz Sérgio Person.
  • Produced by Megafone Filmes in co-production with Cinemateca Brasileira.
  • It won awards including Best Documentary at the São Bernardo do Campo Film Festival and Best Direction at the Santos Film Festival.
