Cast: Ellen Burstyn, Taika Waititi, Pamela Anderson, Edgar Ramírez, Maika Monroe

A razor-sharp pragmatist and a scatterbrained divorcee team up for an offbeat road trip, hauling a wayward champion pigeon from the Windy City all the way back to the Big Apple.

More About This Film

Place to Be is an offbeat road movie about Brooke, an elderly widow who refuses to let other people decide what the final chapter of her life should look like. After an unexpected encounter, she ends up traveling from Chicago toward New York with Nelson, a middle-aged man whose own life is far from settled, and a lost racing pigeon.

The film blends comedy, melancholy, and late-life adventure while focusing on an unlikely friendship. At its center is the idea that growing older does not mean becoming passive, and that meaningful connections can appear in circumstances no one planned.

  • Directed by Kornél Mundruczó and written by Kata Wéber.
  • Ellen Burstyn stars as Brooke alongside Taika Waititi.
  • Pamela Anderson, Murray Bartlett, and David Wenham also appear.
  • The film premiered out of competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival in September 2026.
