Liz Here Now (2026)

Liz Here Now is an upcoming indie drama film scheduled for release in 2026, directed by Sterling Macer Jr. and written by Caleb G. Brown, Sterling Macer Jr., and Grant Nieporte. The story is adapted from the novel of the same name by Todd Connor. Set against the backdrop of 1967 Oakland, California, during the rise of the Black Panther Party, the narrative explores complex social dynamics through the eyes of its protagonist.

The film stars Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Liz Baxter, a nanny working for a prominent white family. Her performance is supported by a cast that includes Rachelle Lefevre and Patrick Walker. The production aims to delve into the tensions and relationships existing within this specific historical and cultural moment, highlighting the personal experiences of those navigating life amidst significant political upheaval.

Principal photography for the movie took place in Lexington, Kentucky, rather than the actual setting of Oakland. This production choice suggests a strategic approach to filming logistics while maintaining the period accuracy required for the 1960s setting. As an independent drama, the film focuses on character-driven storytelling and historical authenticity.
