In November 1943, amid the constant danger of capture in German-occupied Belgium, the Belgian resistance group Independent Front carried out a bold act of defiance by releasing a spoof edition of Le Soir. The fake newspaper mocked both the German occupiers and the country’s leading propaganda-controlled daily. Known as Le Faux Soir, this daring operation is widely considered the first act of media hacking in history.
